Meet the Atlanta lesbian who went viral while fighting cancer

At first glance, you might not think siblings whose styles diverge so much would be super close. Maybe you wouldn’t imagine them collaborating on a clothing line or an international video sensation that addresses gender equality and LGBTQ issues.
But if the sisters are Loren (photo left) and Lindzey Schaffer (photo right), you’d be oh-so-very wrong.
“People have always been curious about Loren and me as sisters, we’re so different,” Lindzey told Project Q Atlanta. “Loren always hypes me up about how amazing and unique I am, and that people need to hear my story and know about me.”
The LGBTQ local, who is a veteran promoter on Atlanta’s nightlife scene, went viral on TikTok – 10 million views viral – in a matter of hours last month for her androgyny, unique style and family bonds. She’s also fighting stage IV cancer.
“I want to help as many people as I can that have cancer and people who struggle showing the world who they are,” Lindzey added. “I was meant for this.”
‘Tis the season – for politics
With little more than a week left until the voting is done, we’re focused on bringing you the LGBTQ angles during the finals days of the campaigns. The latest is a Q&A with Raphael Warnock, the leading Democrat in the campaign for U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s seat in Georgia. In the wide-ranging interview, Warnock calls for passage of the Equality Act, pledges to fight HIV, explains how he’ll combat anti-trans violence and says "Sen. Loeffler is driving people apart.”
“We all deserve the right to live with dignity, to work hard, live well and care for ourselves and our families. It is unacceptable that for too many of our brothers and sisters – especially those who identify as LGBTQ+ – these basic rights are out of reach, and instead they face threats of harassment and discrimination. Now more than ever, we need a federal law that ensures equal protections,” Warnock said.
Last week, Warnock talked with LGBTQ supporters during a virtual meet-and-greet in which he pledged to fight “mealy-mouthed” foes of equality.

What LGBTQ Atlantans are talking about
The numbers don’t lie. And what the Census tells us is something we can anecdotally see for ourselves – Midtown isn’t Atlanta’s only LGBTQ anchor anymore. In 2020, we represent one of the many flavors in Midtown.
Statesboro made a powerful stand in favor of nondiscrimination, equity and inclusion on Tuesday by adopting a broad policy that protects LGBTQ people in private employment, housing and public accommodations. It’s the latest of 11 cities across Georgia to do so.
Friends and LGBTQ activists are calling for justice for Felycya Harris (photo) after the 33-year-old Black transgender woman was found shot to death in an Augusta park. Harris is the 31st trans or gender-nonconforming person violently killed in the U.S. this year.
