5 LGBTQ Atlantans make 'happily ever after’ a reality
While many children growing up imagined being Jasmine, Belle, Pocahontas, Tiana, Prince Charming and other Disney royalty, LGBTQ kids may have reveled in the fantasy a touch more. Our true selves sometimes felt elusive. Playing “Which Disney Character Are You?” took on power as an opportunity to dream big.
Five trans Atlantans channel their favorite Disney character and discuss why each one inspired their inner child. They are profiled in a Q magazine essay thanks to the photography talents of Vanessa Munsch and again with outtakes and extended interviews online with Project Q.
Feroza Syed (photo) as Jasmine said her choice helps envision a whole new world for transgender people:
We’re some of the most marginalized and disenfranchised communities, especially trans and gender non-conforming folks of color. I partook in this photo shoot to illustrate this whole new world I envision. One where TGNC children and adults dare to see themselves as princes or princesses. make them -and the world- realize that we can be more than what we’re told we can be. I want a world in which our community and the next generation lives proud, fulfilled, and knows anything is possible.
What LGBTQ Atlanta is talking about
Another Atlanta Pride Committee member quits amid fears of workplace retaliation. The resignations keep coming, with the most recent from longtime volunteer Sebastian Beckham Nix (photo). Pride dismissed his resignation: “We’re grateful for his prior years of service.”
Doraville makes it rain for anti-LGBTQ attorney Scott Bergthold. The city, despite having a gay mayor and two LGBTQ council members, has paid the notorious lawyer $502,000 to help the city’s fight against nightclubs and adult businesses.
East Point is the latest metro Atlanta city to consider an LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance. The measure would ban discrimination in private employment, housing and public accommodations. East Point would become the eighth city in the state to adopt such an ordinance.
Atlanta faces a shortage of HIV health professionals. The region, already stung by high rates of HIV infections, would face a crisis if all the people living with HIV that aren’t in care actually got into care. With four metro counties in a federal plan to end the epidemic by 2030, HIV activists are sounding the alarm about the potential shortages in HIV workforce.

Pic of the week
When Atlanta’s own Vicki Powell takes her Deep South series to the Heretic, the hunks come out and the shirts come off. And so it was with Horse Meat Disco last weekend. It was far and away our most popular photo album of the week. Based on the pic above, it’s easy to see why.
But wait, there’s more. All Stripes opened its season of support for Atlanta United with a kickoff party Thursday, drag dining got glitzy at Lips, and Blake’s knows how to do Saturday night right.
